Nearly ten months ago, Carlmont’s Scots and the Independence Sixers squared off in the CCS Division IV semi-finals. Late in the 4th quarter of that game with Carlmont clinging to a one touchdown lead, it seemed momentum had shifted to Independence. The Sixers drove the ball to Carlmont’s 24 yard line, but the Scot defense rose to the occasion and pushed the Sixers back 31 yards in four plays to force a change of possession and help preserve Carlmont’s 28-21 victory. However, Friday night saw Carlmont’s offense pile up more than 600 yards en route to a 69-19 win over the Sixers. Carlmont struck early and often in the 1st quarter. Scot senior running back Jonaven Kuhn scored on the game’s opening drive with a 6 yard run. Teammate Wes Brown pulled in a 16 yard pass from Scot sophomore quarterback Timothy Netane followed by Kuhn scoring Carlmont’s third unanswered 1st quarter touchdown with a 6 yard reception from Netane. Kuhn finished the game with 143 yards on 7 carries for two rushing touchdowns and two touchdown receptions. However, most of the offensive highlights were provided by Scot sophomore running back Dane Fifita. This was Fifita’s debut as a varsity running back on the Scots’ home field, and he did not disappoint. Fifita carried the ball 15 times for an impressive 269 yards against Independence. His first touchdown was an 89 yard straight ahead, no nonsense rumble through the Sixers defense in the 2nd quarter. He added a 42 yard burst for six points in the 3rd quarter for his second touchdown. Scot running backs Sean McKenna, George Hannah, and Si’i Tengei scored single touchdowns on runs of 19, 45, and 3 yards, respectively.

Independence quarterback Ian Morrison had a good night passing. He connected on 12 of 20 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. However, he could only net 12 yards on 18 carries against a swarming Scot defense that tackled Morrison eight times for zero or minus yardage.
