The Half Moon Bay Cougars (5-0 PAL Ocean, 9-0) prevailed 56-7 in a lopsided win over the Carlmont Scots (0-4, 3-6). The Cougars scored 29 unanswered first quarter points then added 14 more points in the second quarter before Scot fullback Dane Fifita plunged into the end zone with 35 seconds remaining in the first half. Half Moon Bay amassed 402 yards on the ground with nearly half of that total coming on Cougar Tristan Hofmann’s 13 carries for 143 yards and Hofmann’s teammate William Moffitt’s 6 rushes for 69 yards. Hofmann and Moffitt scored three running touchdowns apiece. Carlmont’s offensive highlight proved to be their late second quarter drive that covered 62 yards in 12 plays and was capped by Fifita’s lone touchdown. On the other side of the ball, the Scots defense had difficulty stopping the Cougar offense which averaged 11 yards per play. However, a valiant defensive effort was made by two Scot linebackers pressed into service due to injuries earlier in the season; Zane Rodriguez and Kevin Jimenez each recorded six solo tackles during the game.
