In the first game of the PAL North-South Challenge, the Carlmont Scots overcame a very slow start to defeat El Camino 50-38.

El Camino led after the first quarter, 12-6, as Carlmont coach Dan Mori used two early time outs to try and wake up his team. The Scots came alive in the second quarter, outscoring El Camino 18-9, to take a 24-21 lead into halftime.

The Scots increased the defensive intensity in the third quarter, as Valerie Kuo shined on defense, disrupting the El Camino offense. The stellar defense resulted in some easy baskets, with Carlmont outscoring El Camino 17-5 in the third quarter.

El Camino, led by Tiana Cruz’ 12 points, make a run at Carlmont in the final period, but the Scots held ion for the win. Carlmont Senior, Erica Mendiola, led all scorers with 16 points and post player, Maliyah Murphy, had a career high of 14.
