The Carlmont Scots improved their overall record to 9-3 with a 59-37 win at Santa Clara. The score does not reflect how close the game was.

Carlmont jumped out to a 12-2 lead and led by 14 points in the late part of the first half. Santa Clara went on a 10-2 run to close out the half trailing only 26-20.

The Scots did a better job of utilizing their size advantage to extend the lead to 42-31, after three quarters. The Bruins played a scrappy, hustling style that definitely got the attention of the Scots.

Carlmont pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Santa Clara 17-6, to finish the game with a 59-37 victory. Senior Co-Captain Ashley Trierweiler led the Scots with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Scots also received scoring contributions from Evelyn Gordi, who had 12 points and Erica Mendiola, who added 10.

Santa Clara was led by Annie Liu’s 11 points and Aleizay Papagayo’s 10.

The loss pushes Santa Clara to 4-9, while the Scots improve to 10-3, heading into the heart of the PAL league schedule.
